Pressure Sensing TextilesFor Tactex Controls Inc Tactex develops and manufactures novel pressure sensing products based on the Kinotex technology for medical and other applications. Kinotex is a platform technology which enables a new class of products. Installed in a mattress, it can monitor patient movement and respiration and sense increasing pressure between the patient and the mattress. Installed in a car seat, it detects the weight and posture of the occupant. Wrapped around the arms of a humanoid robot, it performs the sensory function of a digital skin. StarFish was instrumental in adapting the technology to mass production. We developed fiber optics trimming and alignment techniques, performed optical analysis, developed an interface system for fibers to microelectronic light sensors, developed a manufacturing strategy and implemented the key elements, and created various precision manufacturing stations. |
