June 5, 2017 (Victoria, BC) – Media coverage of the June 2, 2017 Annual VIATEC Technology Awards ceremony and Colin Lennox Technology Champion Award to StarFish Medical CEO and Founder, Scott Phillips, spanned television, print and online outlets.
In a video interview with Dan Gunn, VIATEC CEO, Scott Phillips describes his commitment to the technology and entrepreneur communities, “Entrepreneurship, 90% of it is just convincing people that it’s OK. It’s OK that you don’t know how it’s going to turn out yet.” He added, “I just want to catalyze a community and then give it a place to live.”
Speaking with CHEK News at the event, Phillips noted, “It’s very gratifying to be recognized in that way. You go about your life and do your own things, build your own company, and help other people, and then you look back and realize you probably had a pretty substantial impact in a lot of different ways.”
Press coverage included Technology sector honours local champion by Andrew Duffy in the Times-Colonist. “He’s exactly what the Colin Lennox Award for Technology Champion is all about,” said the VIATEC chief executive.
Dan Gunn, CEO of VIATEC explained, “I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Scott Phillips for more than 15 years and I’ve seen his dedication to our tech community as a VIATEC board member,” volunteer mentor, CEO round table chair and most importantly, as an example of how to join, lead and participate in building a strong tech community. Our tech community is stronger for having him among us and I think Colin Lennox would be proud to see Scott recognized in this manner.”
Phillips sums up his delight, “Peer recognition is the most meaningful kind. We’ve all worked hard to build this amazing community and I’m proud to be a part of it. I thank Dan Gunn and VIATEC team for this unexpected, but much appreciated honour.”
