Bio Services Technician

Reporting to the Research Scientist, the Bio Services Technician will support several advanced research and development programs and be the primary interface between the “science” and the engineering. Responsibilities of the Bio Services Technician include:

  • Support project teams through assistance and handling of infectious samples in a CL2 (BSL2) environment in BSL2 laboratory work
  • Hands-on work with planned lab experiments, executing them with meticulous attention to detail
  • Work within a Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) environment
  • Practice clear documentation techniques and analyze/summarize data as needed
  • Assist with laboratory related report writing, protocol generation and SOP development
  • Assist in troubleshooting Assay problems as needed
  • Identify capable suppliers and vendors to purchase and expedite the delivery of key biological components or reagents
  • Work collaboratively in cross-functional teams comprised of individuals from various disciplines
  • Assist with training and supervision of projects students

Our ideal candidate brings:

  • Bachelor or Masters in Engineering, Applied Science or Science
  • 2+ years technical experience in one or more of the core practice areas (microfluidics, microbiology, and regenerative medicine)
  • A good knowledge of biochemistry, physiology, basic microbiology/cell culture laboratory skills is required
  • Experience working with analytical instruments
  • Demonstrated meticulous laboratory bench work
  • Familiarity with integration and automation of assay chemistries by instrumentation and robotics
  • Excellent understanding of the working principles of molecular diagnostic assays and hands on experience in PCR, with prior experience working under in molecular clean bench
  • Prior experience working with multidisciplinary teams (including assay, microfluidics, hardware, electronics, and software teams an asset)
  • Experience with Product Development in a Quality Management System environment is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and in a multi-site/multicultural organization where effective multi-tasking and both intra and cross-program communication is essential for efficient mission accomplishment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
