Are you a motivated Junior Electrical Engineer who would love the opportunity to help design and develop next generation medical devices for Starfish Medical’s global partners and clients? In this new opportunity in Victoria, BC, you will collaborate with a talented multidisciplinary design team while growing your skills, expanding your knowledge, and gaining valuable hands-on experience as you work on innovative client projects under the guidance of experts in their field.

Total compensation range is expected to be:

$60,033 – $75,042 CAD for this position. Annual variable compensation tied to the completion of goals has a target that is up to 5% of the base salary. Employees are also eligible to earn profit sharing.

As a Junior Electrical Engineer you will:

  • Conceptualize, design and build electronics circuits for medical devices.
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer.
  • Bring up, test, and troubleshoot analog and digital circuits in our well-equipped electronics lab.
  • Develop firmware and software as required.
  • Participate in design, brainstorming, and architecting team meetings.
  • Source electronic parts and maintain our CAD libraries.
  • Assist in regulatory compliance testing for electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility.
  • Develop documentation in accordance with ISO 13485 and IEC 60601 standards.
  • Interface with other design team members by providing technical support.
  • Develop products to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and expand technical knowledge and skills.
  • Conduct other related tasks, as required.

Our ideal candidate brings:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience designing custom PCBs (schematics, layout, and fabrication).
  • Strong electrical theory and electromechanical knowledge.
  • Experience soldering and reworking electronic components.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Curiosity, eagerness to learn, and a self-starter.
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills.

Exceptional Qualifications would include:

  • Experience working in a high-tech consulting environment.
  • Experience in Medical Device design or a similarly regulated industry.

StarFish Medical works with external compensation consultants annually to ensure our ranges reflect the market and our compensation philosophy. StarFish Medical utilizes a career framework that outlines the skills, abilities and behaviors that are required to move between levels of a job family. Placement within a range is based upon those skills, abilities and behaviors. When candidates are assessed for the posted position, we may find that their skills are more aligned with a different level and will discuss that as a separate opportunity. That position may have a different pay range.
