Project Buyer

Project Buyers

We have two (2) openings in Victoria, BC or Toronto, ON,  for Project Buyers to join their Supply Chain team and ensure the timely supply of parts and supplies needed to support their innovative product development team.

The Technical Project Buyer brings at least 5 years of supply chain experience in a similar new product introduction (NPI) manufacturing environment.

The Project Buyer brings 2 years of hands on knowledge and experience of purchasing practices and procedures, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

Both the Technical Project Buyer and the Project Buyer roles require candidates who are motivated, self-driven, and strong individual contributors because NPI is an integral part of the StarFish Supply Chain team. Brief overview of the Technical Project Buyer role:

  • Develop strategic sourcing plans and qualify new suppliers, including capability assessments and fit for Starfish supply chain requirements, with the ability to enable and enhance product development activities and adequate risk assessment.
  • Interpret product development needs from a technical standpoint, and provide supply chain solutions to highly technical engineering teams.
  • Identify future state supply chain needs to provide clients with an ongoing Supply Chain strategy.
  • Represent the Supply Chain team at Product Development meetings (project kickoff meetings, design reviews, etc.).
  • Maintain clear lines of communication with project teams and clients around purchasing issues and concerns.
  • Drive continuous improvement activities and organize process improvement workshops.

Our ideal Technical Project Buyer:

  • Engineering/Technologist and/or Supply Chain Management Degree/Certification or equivalent.
  • 5+ Years of supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of materials and fabrication processes, and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Hands on knowledge and experience of purchasing practices and procedures (preferably in a manufacturing environment) including international sourcing.
  • Experience in early involvement of suppliers in design process and practice in purchasing for New Product Introduction in a regulated environment (ISO 13485 preferred).
  • Knowledge of material cost reduction strategies.
  • Experience with ERP systems, and preferably with SYSPRO.
  • Experience working with electronic components would be considered an asset.

Brief overview of the Project Buyer role:

  • Represent the Supply Chain team at Product Development meetings (project kickoff meetings, design reviews, etc.).
  • Maintain clear lines of communication with project teams and clients around purchasing issues and concerns.
  • Own the procurement process for materials and services anticipated and required by the project teams.
  • Source approved suppliers that will enhance and enable product development activities.
  • Negotiate costs, delivery, quality and supply terms for new components.

Our ideal Project Buyer:

  • 2+ Years of supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands on knowledge and experience of purchasing practices and procedures (preferably in a manufacturing environment).
  • Proficient in standard MS Office software, with intermediate level competency in Excel required.
  • Experience with ERP systems, and preferably with SYSPRO.
  • Experience working with electronic components would be considered an asset.
  • Raw materials purchasing/supplier experience (surface finishing, molding, machined goods) is preferred.
