In the operating room environment, surgeons are under incredible pressure to achieve their surgical objectives while reducing risk to their patents. Imris approached kangaroo to help design an imaging solution that achieves both these goals by allowing the magnet to move between multiple operating theaters as needed during different stages of surgery. When not in use, the magnet can move into a storage bay allowing for a standard surgical workflow.
Starfish was first commissioned by IMRIS to aid in the industrial design, engineering and production strategy. Together with IMRIS, a design language was chosen that would distinguish the IMRIS brand yet still be closely identified as part of the Siemens MRI family of products.
Kangaroo’s background with large paneled systems gave IMRIS a speed to market path that allowed them to debut this new system early. A variety of manufacturing technologies were strategized, planned, and executed to create initial prototypes and tradeshow units that were close to the quality of final production units. This gave IMRIS the ability to showcase the new design, while final detailing and tooling efforts were being completed by the Kangaroo team with IMRIS.
The VISIUS family of imaging solutions currently operate at a number of sites across North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
