Scott holds a degree in Engineering Physics from the University of British Columbia. Prior to starting StarFish, he worked in diverse areas such as lithium battery development and manufacturing, UV spectroscopy instrumentation and hi-fi audio speakers. Under his leadership StarFish has grown into a diverse professional organization with clients around the world and 100% focus on medical devices. Scott is a Chair of the LifeSciences British Columbia board, Fellow of The Canadian Academy of Engineering, winner of the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ 2017 Pacific Awards Technology category, 2017 recipient of the VIATEC Technology Champion award, and volunteers with Junior Achievement, Entrepreneurs Organization, and University of British Columbia.
John is a Professional Physicist and holds a Master of Science in Optics from Queen’s University Belfast. His early career focused on high reliability optoelectronics development and manufacturing transfer. Since joining StarFish in 2005, John has managed projects as diverse as 3D ultrasound development, emergency medical devices, and laboratory automation. Previous roles include Chief Operating Officer, responsible for StarFish Medical product development, manufacturing, day to day QA, internal finance, HR and facilities. From 2011-2016, he led StarFish Medical’s product development activities as Vice President of Product Development. John is a frequent speaker at industry events.
Lynne is a seasoned Business Development Executive in the medical diagnostic industry. Skilled in Sales Management, Sales, Medical Devices, Marketing Management, and Market Analysis, she has held multiple roles in the diagnostic, life science and medical device space in her 30 year career. Prior to joining StarFish Medical, Lynne consulted for product development firms and led global business development teams for Invetech and IDEX Health and Science. A start up entrepreneur with a passion for cycling, Lynne holds a B.S. in Education from the University of Kansas.
Michael leads all aspects of StarFish Medical device design from conceptual ideation to manufacturing transfer. He joined StarFish in 2008 and led both Mechanical Engineering and Project Management prior to heading Product Development in 2016. He has contributed to the development of medical products ranging from hemodialysis treatment to intracardiac ultrasound. Before joining StarFish, Michael worked in product development for Ballard Power Systems and 3M’s Optical Systems Division.
Kathryne Young leads the Manufacturing and Supply Chain teams at Starfish Medical. Kathryne has over 18 years’ experience in supply chain and program management in electronics manufacturing at companies including Creation Technologies, Xantrex Technology, and Solectron. Her passions include developing people’s leadership, implementing lean strategies, and developing efficient and effective processes to support client needs.
Vesna’s expertise in regulatory compliance and conformance standards provides StarFish Medical’s clients with invaluable guidance and assistance in understanding and complying with regulatory standards such as cGMP, GLP, GCP, ISO 13485 and ISO 17025. Drawing upon her certification by the SQA as a Registered QA Professional in GLP and more than 17 years of experience in the R&D and QA fields, Vesna ensures that your StarFish project successfully meets and exceeds industry standards.
19 years of experience as a controller and professional accountant afford Henning with rare insight into the unique financial challenges associated with operating a successful medical device company. Armed with an educational background in Economics and a CPA designation, Henning works with StarFish clients to map out realistic and advantageous strategies to fund the development of their new medical device.
David Dobson has over three decades of product development experience in a variety of corporate and consulting organizations. He has developed medical devices and consumer products, and managed international product design and engineering consultancies. David now applies his development experience and extensive knowledge of medical device and life science markets to business development. He helps clients appropriately apply user research, design, product and technology development to new and innovative technologies and customer experiences.
James Fox is an engineer, growth strategist, and business development professional. A founder of a medical device start-up operating in point of care diagnostics, he also has technical leadership experience in large corporate and consultative environments, with crossover experience in the highly regulated aerospace and industrial robotics spaces. James supports clients in finding pathways to solve critical technical challenges, aligning development strategies to funding and market needs, and in delivering transformative results for patients.
Pamela leads our HR team and oversees all people processes and the unique StarFish culture. “We give people the opportunity to do the best work of their lives” is not just a saying to her. She focuses on ensuring that all employees at StarFish are able to perform at their best. Pamela transitioned into HR from accounting and is a former CPA. She is an ICF-certified coach and SHRM-SCP. Her entrance into HR was through training and she has been part of or led HR teams for over 15 years.
Dwayne brings over 20 years of diverse experience to his role as Director, Operational Systems. Dwayne has led successful IT transformations for organizations in both the public and private sector including a number of positions in the Government of BC, and Manager of Information Services at ARC Financial Corp. and Trident Exploration. A strong promoter of positive change and innovation, Dwayne is identifying transformation opportunities and developing the digital future of StarFish.
