Scott holds a degree in Engineering Physics from the University of British Columbia. Prior to starting StarFish, he worked in diverse areas such as lithium battery development and manufacturing, UV spectroscopy instrumentation and hi-fi audio speakers. Under his leadership StarFish has grown from being a highly motivated team working on one project at a time to a diverse professional organization with clients around the world and 100% focus on medical devices.
John is a Professional Physicist and holds a Master of Science in Optics from Queen’s University Belfast. His early career focused on high reliability optoelectronics development and manufacturing transfer. He is responsible for StarFish Medical product development, manufacturing, day to day QA, internal finance, HR and facilities. As Vice President of Product Development from 2011-2016, he led StarFish Medical’s product development activities and grew his team to over 70 engineers and designers. Since joining StarFish in 2005, John has managed projects as diverse as 3D ultrasound development, emergency medical devices, and laboratory automation. John is a frequent speaker at industry events.
Lahav has been involved in technology-innovation and entrepreneurship for 3 decades starting in Israel’s bustling Innovation climate of the 80’s. During the late 90’s he integrated into the Canadian innovation scene, leading Industrial Design projects for Creo/Kodak in Vancouver. In 2003 he founded the design and innovation firm, Kangaroo Group (ISO 13485), which has been his primary focus, alongside spin-ins and spin-outs and partnerships. Lahav has had the privilege to accompany and advise to many Canadian startups on their journey from napkin to launch, contributing to their investability and market readiness.
Charles Garcia is responsible for all aspects of StarFish Medical sales including Medical Device Design and Engineering Services, Quality Management System (QMS) Solutions and low to moderate volume finished Manufacturing Services. Mr. Garcia has held sales, marketing, and engineering positions at multiple companies focused on medical electronic, mechanical and software devices, including Colorado MEDtech, Byers Peak and Baxter Hospital Supply / Edwards Critical-Care divisions. He holds a B.S. Electronic Engineering Technology from Cal Poly (California Polytechnic), San Luis Obispo, California.
Michael leads all aspects of StarFish Medical device design from conceptual ideation to manufacturing transfer. He joined StarFish in 2008 and led both Mechanical Engineering and Project Management prior to heading Product Development in 2016. He has contributed to the development of medical products ranging from hemodialysis treatment to intracardiac ultrasound. Before joining StarFish, Michael worked in product development for Ballard Power Systems and 3M’s Optical Systems Division.
Jason has more than twelve years of experience in manufacturing management in diverse industries and graduated in operations management from BC Institute of Technology. In addition to overseeing all production, Jason is responsible for service, inventory and supply chain management. He is also charged with maintaining strong, transparent and responsive relationships with our manufacturing clients.
Vesna’s expertise in regulatory compliance and conformance standards provides StarFish Medical’s clients with invaluable guidance and assistance in understanding and complying with regulatory standards such as cGMP, GLP, GCP, ISO 13485 and ISO 17025. Drawing upon her certification by the SQA as a Registered QA Professional in GLP and more than 17 years of experience in the R&D and QA fields, Vesna ensures that your StarFish project successfully meets and exceeds industry standards.
19 years of experience as a controller and professional accountant afford Henning with rare insight into the unique financial challenges associated with operating a successful medical device company. Armed with an educational background in Economics and a CMA designation, Henning works with StarFish clients to map out realistic and advantageous strategies to fund the development of their new medical device.
