2018 honors for outstanding contributions to StarFish Group success

VICTORIA, British Columbia and TORONTO, Ontario, UPDATED December 11, 2018 – The StarFish Group’s three highest honors for outstanding contributions to company success were presented to Joshua Coutts, James Jackson, Brian Ives, Janet Murray, Andrew Morton and Martin Par at the organization’s annual Christmas parties in Victoria and Toronto. Nominations are submitted by company employees and cite a variety of achievements and outstanding performance for each award.

Joshua Coutts, Mechanical Engineer, and James Jackson, Principal Industrial Designer, received the Chris Denny Memorial Award for Innovation for their work developing a new generation of nasal drug delivery system.

The Keep Calm and Carry On Award was presented to Janet Murray, ViVitro Labs Client Relations Manager for rising to the challenge of record sales and reduced staffing, taking on more and more responsibility, but always making it look easy. Brian Ives, Sr. Service and Assembly Technician, received the award for wearing several hats during the year: production controller, floor manager/supervisor, shipper and handling them all with grace and confidence.

New this year, Reach for the Stars Victoria and Toronto awards honor employees who “make the way we run projects, the way our systems work and the way we make our clients successful better.”

Andrew Morton received the inaugural Reach for the Stars Victoria award for process improvements including standardized invoicing processes, standard task and regular formal Project Health and Project Risk Reviews.

Martin Par received the inaugural Reach for the Stars Toronto award for his “diligent work leading teams on a tight budget (including a successful exit for one client).  His dedication to excel in tasks assigned to him, working above and beyond his the roles and responsibilities, has helped proposal  development to secure projects in Toronto”.

Scott Phillips, Founder and CEO of StarFish describes the significance and timing of the awards, “I think of StarFish Group as a big family.  Each December we gather to take stock of the year and cerebrate. It is a chance to recognize people who have gone above and beyond for all of us. So many do great things that it’s almost impossible to choose, but it is important to reflect and thank them for their contributions. This year the nominees were so impressive we honoured six employees.”

The Chris Denny Memorial Award for Innovation honors someone from the StarFish group of companies who has immersed themselves deeply in a technical problem in order to find a brilliant solution to the design challenge, as stated, or more deeply. The recipient is chosen by John Walmsley, COO, and Michael Lubben, Director of Product Development.

The Keep Calm and Carry On Award honors an employee who rises to challenging times with compassion and grace making employees, customers, and leadership feel more confident, positive, and well looked after. It is selected and presented by Scott Phillips.

A new award, Reach for the Stars recognizes employees who make the company better by finding ways to make our process better through professional excellence.  The recipient is selected from employee nominations and presented by Scott Phillips.
