Senior Project Manager – Early–Stage Electromechanical Product Development

StarFish Medical is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead complex electromechanical product development projects from concept through design transfer and manufacturing readiness.

We design and build medical devices, laboratory equipment, and other advanced hardware systems that integrate mechanical, electrical, and software components. Candidates with experience leading early-stage, first-of-kind product development programs in robotics, automation, advanced equipment, or medical device development are encouraged to apply.

Why You’ll Love It Here

At the Irvine site, you’ll join a small, high-energy team that values ingenuity, curiosity, and practical problem solving. You’ll work in a creative environment where your early-stage project management skills directly impact breakthrough medical technologies.

Why This Role Is Different

You will spend most of your time:

  • Leading early-stage, technically ambiguous product development programs from concept through feasibility and architecture definition
  • Working hands-on with engineering teams to translate customer needs into clear technical and execution plans
  • Driving schedules, risks, and trade-off decisions in fast-moving, innovation-focused environments
  • Partnering directly with clients during the most critical phases of product definition and decision-making

If you enjoy project managing the front end of innovation, you’ll feel at home here.

  • Lead cross-functional engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, software, and design)
  • Ensure projects meet scope, schedule, and budget targets
  • Oversee early and mid-stage design reviews, risk management, and development-phase regulatory alignment (ISO 13485 or equivalent)
  • Support design transfer and manufacturing readiness, including collaboration on ECR/ECO processes and vendor engagement
  • Driving schedules, risks, and trade-off decisions in a fast-moving, innovation-focused environment
  • Partner with clients to align technical decisions with business goals
  • Contribute to PMO improvement

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or a related discipline
  • 10+ years of experience, with a minimum of 3 or more years leading early-stage electromechanical or hardware product development programs
  • Experience working in regulated product development environments (medical devices, automation, advanced equipment, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of system architecture, cross-discipline integration, technical trade-offs, and product realization
  • Familiarity with design transfer and manufacturing readiness in regulated environments
  • PMP certification is an asset, not required
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client-facing skills

Salary

Base Salary: USD 110,000 – 160,000 annually
