Scott Phillips, StarFish Medical President and Founder, will present at the 3rd Schulich Innovation Research Day – Medical Devices Innovation Review on June 15, 2015 in Toronto, ON. Produced by Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, the event is open to industry, clinicians, scientists, and students interested in medical devices innovation and commercialization.
Scott will be one of the morning session speakers providing discussions on various aspects of the current medical device design landscape in Canada, which will be followed by an interactive med-tech industry gaps session where Canada’s top serial medical technology entrepreneurs and social innovators will share their experiences. Other speakers in the session include:
- Mr. Steve Arless, Managing Partner, Medius International – He will lecture on entrepreneurship in the medtech field with the talk title “Inside the Mind of A Serial Entrepreneur”.
- Richard Meadows, COO Medical Devices Commercialization Centre – He will lecture on the funding environment for medical devices with the talk title “Funding Medical Devices in Canada”.
- Alexei Marko, CEO Neovasc Inc. – He will lecture on the local and global competition with the talk title “Competing on a Global Scale”.

An afternoon session will allow selected teams to participate in a clinical needs finding competition. The clinical needs finding competition will allow multidisciplinary teams, (each consisting of a clinical fellow, an MBA & an engineer) to shadow physicians at Sunnybrook and identify real clinical challenges & problems that impose a significant medical burden.
