StarFish Medical’s Industrial Design and Human Factors department is opening its door to an Industrial Design summer coop student. We are looking forward to help you learn and grow while assisting in the real world design and development of some potentially life saving medical devices.

Salary
Hourly rate for 3rd year student is $26.70 and hourly rate for 4th year student is $27.91
Position Profile
Reporting to the Industrial Design Team Manager, the Industrial Design Coop role requires good problem solving skills, good understanding of the design process, general understanding of manufacturing technologies and materials, good understanding of user-centric design approach, understanding in UX development and great intrapersonal skills. We are looking for some one who is passionate about the role that design plays in people lives and has a strong visual design sense.
Responsibilities
- Support the Industrial Design team through ideation, brainstorming, concept sketching and exploration.
- Assist in qualitative research activities with the ID of HF teams.
- Perform initial analysis and critique of existing devices.
- Support project teams through formative prototyping.
- Help craft design concepts through CAD, computer renderings.
- Assemble design concept presentations.
- Assist HF and ID team members through facilitating.
- Work collaboratively with StarFish Medical’s engineering, marketing and QA teams to support projects.
- Any other related duties, as required.
Qualifications
- Ability to work within a team or as an individual with minimal supervision.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with SolidWorks, Adobe Creative Suite, Keyshot and Microsoft Office Suite.
- 3rdor 4th year industrial design student with a focus on product design, human factors and/or user experience.
- Demonstrate the ability to clearly communicate design concepts.
- An eye for visual design.
- Able to present a relevant portfolio demonstrating abilities.
- Skills in Figma, Axure, Maze are a bonus.
- Motivated and self-driven.
Tasks
During your coop placement StarFish will try it’s best to have you working on some real world projects helping to support the ID/HF team. The exact tasks will be determined by current project status. Beyond this, you will be tasked with an independent project over the duration of your placement. The details of this project are to be determined but if you have any suggestions or thoughts on a specific topic you would like to tackle, please share them! On a day to day basis you will be expected to monitor and track your hours through our internal system.
