StarFish Medical is a product development and low-volume contract manufacturing Consulting Firm focused on medical devices and laboratory test equipment. Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.


Toronto, Ontario or Victoria, BC Offices.

Base salary range is between

$103,319.04 – $148,896.00CAD. Annual variable compensation tied to goal completion targets of 5-10% of the base salary. Employees are also eligible to earn profit sharing. Candidates with strong abilities may be considered for a different position with increased compensation.

StarFish Medical works with external compensation consultants annually to ensure our ranges reflect the market and our compensation philosophy. StarFish Medical utilizes a career framework that outlines the skills, abilities, and behaviours required to move between different levels of a job family. Placement within a range is based on those skills, abilities, and behaviours. When candidates are assessed for the posted position, we may find that their skills are more aligned with a different level and will discuss that as a separate opportunity. That position may have a different pay range. The range posted includes all geographic locations to ensure the available base pay range is shared. If a candidate is moving forward in the hiring process past the first interview, we can share the band specific to their geographic location.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead and inspire design teams to develop new products & technologies from concept to detailed design.
  • Initiate and steer effective brainstorming sessions that will spawn open-minded, out-of-the-box thinking.
  • Effectively manage the “triple constraint” of budget, schedule and scope on complex, dynamic product development programs.
  • Assist with and lead elements for the Project Management Office (PMO), including conducting reports with other project managers, updating processes and evaluating new tools.
  • Strategically manage expectations with StarFish Medical’s customers, including separating ” need ” from “want” and presenting trade-off evaluations to support decision-making.
  • Apply a risk management-centric approach to actively highlight and disposition threats and opportunities.
  • Mentor & support the development of other PMs and junior project managers (project engineers)
  • Oversee and direct the work of other project managers and junior project managers (project engineers)
  • Initiate and lead appropriate design reviews as required
  • Interface with Business Development and Program Managers to support the transfer of new activities into Engineering
  • Oversee the work of team members to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, company procedures, product requirements, and specifications.
  • Support vendor quotations, POs and lead times to monitor BOM targets and ensure cost-effective manufacturing processes are chosen during design.
  • Work closely with clients, team members, and vendors to monitor and control schedules & budgets.
  • Ensure all required design & quality documentation is completed, and all design processes are followed.
  • Adhere to and enhance the Quality Management System (QMS), including developing and maintaining documentation.
  • Continue to support products through the manufacturing transfer and ongoing production. This includes creating and managing ECRs, ECO’s, and liaising with clients to resolve product issues.

What You Bring To The Team

You are suited to our approach and possess these attributes:

  • Engineering degree, physical science degree or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience as a Project Manager in a consulting environment is desired, and experience in a regulated industry, whether medical or not, would be advantageous.
  • PMP certification is not required, but we will consider experienced candidates with the qualifications.
  • Experience with Software Development, CAD, FEA Analysis, Rapid Prototyping, PCB Layout, or Manufacturing processes is desired.
  • At least 10 years of experience managing similar projects is required to succeed in this role.
