The January 22, 2018 online edition of Medical Product Outsourcing (MPO) features an exclusive online article, When to Design a DC-DC Converter from Scratch, by StarFish Medical Principal Engineering Physicist, Kenneth MacCallum.
The article describes how to decide whether to use an off-the-shelf DC-DC module or design it from scratch for a medical electronic device.
After reviewing the pros and cons of both approaches, MacCallum concludes, “When designing a medical device, there are many good reasons to design from-scratch DCDCs as well as use off-the-shelf modules. Both can be a great solution for a project’s particular problem. The key is to properly engineer that solution—whatever choice is made.”
