QA Specialist working on Black Belt

VICTORIA, British Columbia, March 27, 2014 – StarFish Medical announces four staff members earned Green Belts including a QA Specialist now working on his Black Belt as part of ongoing customer satisfaction and production quality initiative. Jason Dolynny, Director of Manufacturing; Garrick Gunn- Assembly and Service Technician; Dana Trousil- Mechanical Engineer; and Cameron Neish, QA Specialist recently completed Aveta Business Institute courses and exams to earn their Six Sigma Green Belt certification and join another StarFish Green Belt, Laura Meyer – Supply Chain Manager.
Six Sigma is a set of business management methodologies aimed at cutting waste and increasing productivity by eliminating errors through a variety of processes and tools. Cameron Neish is now earning his Black Belt certification by performing a Six Sigma project in manufacturing and product development Inventory control, supplier management and overall product quality. His project includes limiting the number of non-conformances and returned material.
Neish explains: “We’re trying to drive down the overall lead time and improve out of the box quality for our customers. It’s interesting how dependent the process is on repeatability and how difficult it can be to control when things aren’t stable. My challenge is figuring out how we apply Six Sigma to the relatively short-term projects that are StarFish Medical specialities.”
Aveta Business Institute describes Six Sigma Green Belts as the team players in the business — those who do most of the Six Sigma work. They use statistical tests and the tools necessary to complete the projects under the instruction of Black Belts.
Vesna Janic- Director QA/RA at StarFish Medical, adds: “Cam chose manufacturing and product development Inventory control, supplier management and overall product quality because we want to avoid start-stop projects and build our internal expertise in the most consistent areas and functions for greatest impact. It’s exciting to build a team and see if we can apply Six Sigma knowledge to the processes that already exist at StarFish Medical.”
