SIBO: a digestive disorder

StarFish Medical Bio Services development work is mentioned in the Quebec Science October-November 2020 issue.  SIBO: a digestive disorder with delicate treatment, written by Isabelle Delorme, is subtitled “Symptoms often associated with irritable bowel syndrome sometimes hide another lesser-known digestive disorder: SIBO.”

The author notes “Researchers are increasingly interested in the microbiota and the billions of bacteria that constitute it, essential for the proper functioning of the human body. As long as they are in the right place!”

The article describes SIBO symptoms, the similarity to Irritable Bowel Syndrome, current diagnostic tools, and their limitations. “To overcome these pitfalls, Dr. Rao is currently testing a swallowable capsule developed by the Canadian company StarFish Medical. It is “a revolutionary microbiological mini-laboratory for detecting bacteria,” he summarizes. The first results of in vitro tests will be released in the fall. If they are conclusive, they could be followed by tests on the human being in the spring of 2021.”
