Vancouver Medical Device Playbook 2018 draws 160 medtech company leaders from across North America

VICTORIA BC – May 28, 2018 – StarFish Medical announced that Vancouver Medical Device Playbook 2018 (#MDPLAYBOOK) drew an audience of 160 medtech company leaders, QA/Regulatory professionals, and R&D engineers from start-ups, manufacturers, consultancies, regulatory and academic organizations.

100% of attendee respondents to the post-event online survey rated the event as Excellent or Very Good. 95% were Extremely or Very Likely to recommend the event to friends.

Hon. George Chow, Minister of State for Trade, British Columbia, opened the event stressing the importance of Medical Device and LifeSciences to British Columbia, “I understand that the theme of today’s event is Dream a Bigger Dream.  Dreaming begins with an idea and then spreading that idea so that everyone can benefit. To all of the innovators and companies here today, I encourage you to keep dreaming, keep moving forward with your passion and commitment to improving lives!”

Event speakers included Stan Lapidus, founder of two >$2Bn value diagnostics companies, Mitch Levinson, co-founder, President and CEO at Cerebrotech, and Doug Goertzen, CEO at Kardium, a Vancouver SFU EE grad now leading an Atrial Fibrillation start-up.

Lapidus summed up the event, “I met so many interesting accomplished people as well as the next generation of medical device entrepreneurs. So much energy in the room! Also, being among so many people like me, made the meeting feel like home. “

Attendees described their favorite part of the event:

“Hearing about the different approaches founders have used to build successful companies.”

“Amazing speaker lineup. Very inspiring to have such top people come to Vancouver.”

“In addition to the Networking Reception, I enjoyed the sessions that were less focused on technological concerns and more on what makes entrepreneurs successful from problem-solving, risk-mitigation and business-strategy perspectives.”

“As a 26 year old attending the conference after seeing so many successful entrepreneurs speak after setting up multiple companies it was relieving to hear Scott mention the average entrepreneur at the conference started their company after 12 years… I’ve got some time”

The event was produced by Scott Phillips and co-hosted by LifeSciences BC and StarFish Medical.  Phillips noted: “Playbook Vancouver was magical this year.  I’m confident there has never been such an esteemed group of medtech entrepreneurs in one room in Vancouver before.   Let’s see what happens next.”
