As a Project Buyer at StarFish Medical, you’ll report directly to the Purchasing and Logistics Manager and play a hands-on role in ensuring our product development teams have the materials and components they need, exactly when they need them. Your ability to think critically, problem-solve, and communicate effectively will be essential in navigating supplier relationships, optimizing procurement strategies, and maintaining costed Bills of Materials.

What You’ll Do

  • Represent Supply Chain at project kickoff meetings, design reviews, and other product development discussions.
  • Own and manage the procurement process for project materials and services, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and suppliers, effectively communicating project needs and expectations.
  • Negotiate costs, delivery terms, quality, and supplier agreements to meet internal and client needs.
  • Source and maintain approved suppliers while proactively identifying alternative suppliers to optimize BOM costs.
  • Maintain and update supplier information in ERP systems (preferably SYSPRO), ensuring data accuracy.
  • Support supplier evaluation processes, including supplier audits, NCRs, and SCARs.
  • Prepare, process, and analyze quote packages, making recommendations based on cost, quality, and delivery considerations.
  • Assist in resolving Quality Control and Accounts Payable issues related to procurement.
  • Manage open order reports to track supplier performance and ensure timely delivery of materials.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Business Administration, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in supply chain, procurement, or purchasing within a product development or manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on knowledge of best procurement practices (preferably in electromechanical manufacturing).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in cost analysis and supplier management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel required) and experience with ERP systems (preferably SYSPRO).
  • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience in regulated industries (e.g., medical device, aerospace, or automotive).
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 standards.
  • Advanced certifications (e.g., APICS Supply Chain Procurement Certificate).
  • Experience with electrical and electronic component procurement.
  • Familiarity with supplier quality management and continuous improvement initiatives.
