Starfish Medical software engineering manager, John Turner, is quoted in 10 Ways GDPR Will Affect Engineers, Part 1 written by Agam Shah, Associate Editor, for the July 2018 online edition of Mechanical Engineering Magazine.
“The impact of GDPR can be significant depending on the information control and transport. Medical devices requiring cache personal information, such as name, age, and weight, within the data storage of the device itself, will need to be audited as changes to the software may be required.” according to Turner.
He adds: “Starfish has work instructions to include the ability to remove patient history. “Typically this is the opposite of current practice for most connected devices,” Turner says. “Patient history provides information that help diagnose and treat most diseases and medical conditions.”
THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS (ASME) promotes the art, science & practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe. ASME is a not-for-profit membership organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing, career enrichment, and skills development across all engineering disciplines, toward a goal of helping the global engineering community develop solutions to benefit lives and livelihoods. Founded in 1880 by a small group of leading industrialists, ASME has grown through the decades to include more than 130,000 members in 151 countries. Thirty-two thousand of these members are students.
