Sharing industry expertise with the next generation of medical device engineers
Victoria BC (January 3, 2019) StarFish Medical announces that it is engaging with the Biomedical Engineering (BME) program at University of Victoria to provide instructors for a new course offering for Spring 2019.
BME401C – Human Factors and Usability Engineering for Medical Devices will cover the regulatory framework and regulatory standards for developing medical devices. Human factors associated with biomedical device design, including ergonomics and usability, the concept of a usability study and clinical trial, and Safety and Risk Assessment and Management are among the topics that will be discussed. Case studies of existing medical devices will be interspersed in the course.
“We are delighted to contribute to this new program at University of Victoria. Complementing academic rigor with shared industry experiences is a critical part of biomedical education. We are pleased to bring our medical device expertise and history to help train the next generation of medical device engineers.” Scott Phillips, StarFish Medical CEO and Founder.
“Partnering with Starfish Medical to deliver a course on Human Factors and Usability Engineering for Medical Devices represents a logical extension of our on-going partnership of the Faculty of Engineering with them and it also serves as an important example of community engaged learning here at the University of Victoria.” Stephanie Willerth, Ph.D., P.Eng., Canada Research Chair in Biomedical Engineering, Acting Director of the University of Victoria Biomedical Engineering program and the Centre for Biomedical Research.
