Victoria BC based medical device engineering, commercialization and manufacturing company, StarFish Medical, doubled its eastern North America presence by purchasing a 20,000 square foot building in the Stockyards – Junction area of Toronto.
“Today is the day we bought our building in Toronto. We’re definitely doubling down on being in Toronto and having people together,” is how StarFish Founder and CEO, Scott Phillips summed up the purchase on LinkedIn.
StarFish Medical acquired Kangaroo Design and took over the Kangaroo lease at 139 Mulock Avenue in 2017. The building purchase will house Toronto staff growth with capabilities including microfluidics design and NPI commercialization. More than 50% of future StarFish Medical employee growth is expected to occur in Toronto.
Constructed in 1968, the concrete brick-facade building and neighborhood zoning includes a variety of office, professional and clean, specialized industrial uses. From entrepreneurial firms (Govan Brown, Freshbooks) to large global entities (Ubisoft), the Junction’s character market is now home to some of Toronto’s premiere companies.
