Behind the Deal: Inside Major MedTech Transactions
“Behind the Deal: Inside Major MedTech Transactions” is now available as an on-demand webinar. In this conversation, Scott Phillips, CEO of StarFish Medical, sits down with Peter van der Velden, Managing General Partner at Lumira Ventures, to explore the strategic thinking behind major MedTech transactions and investments.
MedTech founders and executives are navigating a more complex transaction landscape where capital is selective, timing matters, and early strategic decisions often shape the outcome years later. Drawing on decades of experience in life sciences investing, Peter shares practical insight into how venture capital firms evaluate opportunities and how companies can position themselves for long-term success.
During the discussion, Scott and Peter examine the realities behind high-profile MedTech deals. Rather than focusing on headlines alone, the conversation looks at the decisions and trade-offs that influence whether companies are able to grow, secure investment, or achieve successful transactions.
The session highlights how founders and leadership teams must balance technical innovation with strategic planning. From understanding investor expectations to navigating the timing of key milestones, Scott and Peter discuss how the choices made during the early stages of company development can have lasting effects on future deal outcomes.
Drawing from Lumira Ventures’ experience supporting innovative healthcare companies, Peter reflects on the broader MedTech investment environment and how venture investors work alongside entrepreneurs to build transformative companies. The discussion provides valuable perspective on the long-term collaboration required to bring breakthrough healthcare technologies to market.
The webinar concludes with a live audience Q&A, where attendees asked candid questions about today’s MedTech deal environment and the factors that influence successful transactions.
The recording is an insightful resource for MedTech founders, entrepreneurs, and industry professionals seeking a deeper understanding of how strategic decisions and investor perspectives shape major healthcare transactions.
