Presenter Bios:

Sam Ifergan – Founder & CEO, iGan Partners

Sam is the Founder and Managing Partner of iGan Partners and has over 25 years of entrepreneurial, technology and venture capital experience. Sam founded iGan Partners in 2013 which is now the largest healthcare venture capital investor in Canada. Sam is actively involved in evaluating, structuring and executing iGan’s investments. Collectively, iGan has supported the creation of over 25 successful medical device and digital health companies in Canada.
Sam works very closely with portfolio companies and is actively involved in their commercialization. He serves as the Chairman of MolecuLight, Retispec, RNA Diagnostics and sits on the board of several other MedTech companies. Prior to founding iGan Partners, Sam co-founded and exited several tech companies including Visual Sonics (sold to Fuji Medical), Tri-Link Technologies (sold to Teltronics), and Brighter Minds (IPO). Prior to iGan having an investment Fund, Sam began investing to help commercialize MedTech. Sam applied this same company building approach to investing and value creation and built the family of iGan Partner Funds.
Sam holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from McGill University and an MBA from the John Molson School of Business.

Randy Scott – Partner, HealthQuest Capital

Randy is a Partner and Co-Founder of HealthQuest Capital, a venture capital firm focused on growth investments into companies transforming the value of healthcare. HealthQuest has roughly $2 Billion in assets under management across 5 funds. Randy currently serves on the Boards of Magnolia Medical Technology, Springbuk, Thirty Madison and 83bar. He was previously on the Boards of Avizia (acquired by American Well), Trice Medical and Virmedica (acquired by CareMetx). At HealthQuest, Randy has led investments totaling over $150M.
Prior to moving into venture capital, Randy was a successful medtech entrepreneur for many years. Randy’s industry successes include starting NovaMin Technology, Inc. leading it through financing, growth and eventual acquisition by GlaxoSmithKline (where is the active ingredient in billions of dollars worth of Sensodyne toothpaste, sold in most of the world); and a turn-around of USBiomaterials Corp, leading bone-grafting products company to profitability (now known as NovaBone Products, a division of Halma PLC).
He is a graduate of Georgia Tech with a BS in Management Science.

Dan Kidle – Managing Partner, Arboretum Ventures

Dan Kidle is a Managing Partner at Arboretum Ventures, a healthcare-focused firm based in Michigan. Dan identifies promising investment opportunities across Arboretum’s sectors of interest, with particular emphasis on life science tools and diagnostics. Dan currently serves as a board director for Jumpcode Genomics, Flosonics Medical, Akadeum Life Sciences, Enumera Molecular and BrightSpec.
Dan has played key roles in several successful Arboretum investments, including IntelliCyt (acquired in 2016), Swift Biosciences (acquired in 2021), and Dropworks (acquired in 2021). Additionally, Dan has supported investments including NeuMoDx, Strata Oncology, and SI-BONE. Dan was a recipient of the National Venture Capital Association’s Rising Star Award in 2020.
Prior to joining Arboretum, Dan held corporate finance roles at Eli Lilly & Company, supporting the company’s U.S. sales and marketing operations. Dan currently serves on the Investment Advisory Board for the Michigan Biomedical Venture Fund at the University of Michigan.
Dan earned a BBA and MBA from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

Scott Phillips – CEO & Founder, StarFish Medical

Scott holds a degree in Engineering Physics from the University of British Columbia. Prior to starting StarFish, he worked in diverse areas such as lithium battery development and manufacturing, UV spectroscopy instrumentation and hi-fi audio speakers. Under his leadership StarFish has grown into a diverse professional organization with clients around the world and 100% focus on medical devices. Scott is a past Chair and current member of the LifeSciences British Columbia board, member of the 2022 VIATEC Board of Directors, Fellow of The Canadian Academy of Engineering, winner of the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year2017 Pacific Awards Technology category, 2017 recipient of the VIATEC Technology Champion award, and volunteers with Junior Achievement, Entrepreneurs Organization, and University of British Columbia.
